Description

This is creature. It doesn’t have a name yet unfortunately. Ive been wanting to draw creatures and dinosaurs for some time now, but ive been spending time practicing people instead. So here is my first attempt at drawing a dinosaur type creature. The initial sketch was done in a sketchbook roughly the size of a 20 pack of cigarettes ie. Very small. I had quite a clear idea of the features I wanted, and because most of the work would be in the colouring I didn’t feel the need to do too much with the sketch. From sketch to completion it took 6 days on and off.
The idea is that it is a very fast runner with long muscled legs. The face was to be quite soft and friendly as it’s supposed to be a fairly docile creature unless provoked. If it does need to defend itself the creature has long sloth-like claws that are good for taking chunks out of skin/rocks/digging etc. I coloured it a relaxed shade but put red on the face to intimidate other creatures like some animals do. The arms are just long and muscled enough to be useful. And if it chooses the creature can walk on all fours. As it’s quite tall (6ft 9in) the creature uses its long sturdy tail for balance. I wanted it to look quite cute and gross all at the same time. I gave it 5 beady eyes that let it look many places at once. The bulb on its face acts and both a nose and an extra-sensory device. The bulbous tissue can detect scents from miles away and feel vibrations in the air. I included two extra air holes on the front of the face which, when the animal is running quickly, allow it to take in extra air. The skin is smooth and silky like a snake, but warm to the touch. The spiny plates on the brow bone are just for prettiness.
It was fun putting the creature in a setting. I usually shy away from a background because I haven’t had a lot of practice. Well, here it is. And ive just decided ‘it’ should be a ‘she’. So here she is. I hope to do more creature art soon.
thanks for looking!
